Coming 2026: The Ottawa Independent Baseball League

The Ottawa Patriots are seeking to collaborate with local baseball organizations to launch an independent competitive league at the 14U and 16U levels for the 2026 season. We believe there is a strong demand for inter-organizational play within the Ottawa region, regardless of association affiliation. To give this initiative the best chance of success, we are initially focusing on just two age groups—starting small to build a solid foundation.

One of the primary goals of this newly established league is to provide teams with additional games while respecting their existing commitments to other leagues. The plan includes scheduling a handful of weeknight games along with a few weekend doubleheaders throughout May and June. Teams would then take a break in July for tournaments, with a potential playoff tournament scheduled on a weekend between late July and mid-August.

We understand that age classifications differ between associations, so a flexible approach is necessary. Our goal is to create a competitive balance that enhances both the excitement of the games and the development of players as they progress to the next level.

The 14U division will include players born between May 1, 2011, and December 31, 2012, with the possibility of allowing one or two overage players. Similarly, the 16U division will consist of players born between May 1, 2009, and December 31, 2010, also with consideration given to accommodating one or two overage players.

We anticipate the league fee to be minimal as each team would be responsible to provide and pay for their home park and umpires.

Please contact Paul Villeneuve at 613-371-6225 for questions, or additional information.

Thank You
